French President Emmanuel Macron said he would try to pressure and persuade to keep striker Kylian Mbappe at PSG.
“I have no news about Mbappe’s case but if it is true, I will put pressure to keep him at PSG,” RMC Sport quoted French President Emmanuel Macron when asked about the possibility of Mbappe leaving PSG in the summer of 2023.
The French president did not reveal what he would do to keep Mbappe. However, Mr. Macron’s statement showed Mbappe’s importance to football in particular and French sports in general.
Meanwhile, Le Parisien said Mbappe’s departure could cause Ligue 1’s television rights to seriously depreciate. This tournament has lost much of its charm when Lionel Messi refused to renew his contract with the French champion or Neymar could not play regularly at the club.
This is not the first time, PSG have to ask for the support of Mr. Macron. In the summer of 2022, PSG increased wages, added a series of perks, and especially had the intervention of the French President to convince Mbappe to stay at Parc des Princes. The capital team’s efforts were successful when in May 2022, Mbappe agreed to extend for two more seasons.
Just a year after signing a new contract, Mbappe wants to leave again. The striker’s plan is to stay at PSG until the summer of 2024 and then not activate the option of a one-year extension to leave as a free agent. Currently, PSG is considering a plan to sell Mbappe if it cannot convince the 2018 World Cup champion to change his mind.
